Announce New
Wind Project in West Texas
AUSTIN, Texas – October 3, 2007 – Edison Mission
Group (EMG), a subsidiary of Edison International, announced that it has
finalized an agreement with Cielo Wind Power, LP, of Austin, Texas, to acquire
the Goat Mountain Wind Ranch™
project in west Texas.
Located
approximately 30 miles north of San Angelo, the Goat Mountain
project will generate 150 megawatts (MW) of wind-generated electricity when
fully operational. The energy generated
by the facility will be sold on a merchant basis to a number of energy
suppliers in the ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) market which
covers an area in Texas
with a population of more than 20 million people. Goat
Mountain will be EMG’s
first wind project in the ERCOT market.
“We look forward to expanding our
wind energy capabilities with the addition of the Goat Mountain
project,” said Randy Mann, vice president of wind development at EMG. “This new wind project enhances our rapidly
growing wind portfolio by adding generation capacity that will supply
environmentally friendly power on a merchant basis to a market that is new to
Edison Mission Group. Providing more
sources of clean, renewable energy is a key focus for us, as we continue to add
new projects to our wind energy development pipeline.”
The Goat Mountain
wind project will feature a total of 109 turbines manufactured by Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries on approximately 10,500 acres of land. “EMG and Mitsubishi have assembled a
professional construction and operations team to complete the project by the
end of 2008,” said Walt Hornaday, president of Cielo Wind Power.

EMG and Cielo Wind Power have
jointly developed the site. Goat Mountain
is EMG’s second wind project in Texas. EMG and Cielo Wind Power successfully
developed and commercialized the Wildorado Wind Ranch™ near Amarillo,
Texas, earlier this year. The 161-MW facility provides electricity to
Southwestern Public Service Company under a long-term power purchase agreement.
EMG is one of the largest owners and
operators of wind energy projects in the United States. Headquartered in Irvine, California,
EMG currently has a portfolio of 993 MW of wind power capacity that includes 20
projects, either in operation or under
construction, in
seven states. The
company has an additional 3,000 MW of capacity from potential wind projects in
its development pipeline in nine more states.
Based in Austin,
Texas, Cielo Wind Power is the largest
independently owned wind power developer in the southwestern United States. The company has
developed 1,148 MW of wind-generated electricity, with its operations dedicated
solely to the wind power industry.
