AUSTIN, TX – December 2, 2002 – Nevada Power Company, a subsidiary of Sierra Pacific Resources (NYSE: SRP) has entered into an agreement with Desert Queen Wind Limited Partnership, an affiliate of Cielo Wind Power LLC of Austin, Texas, to purchase the power produced by an 80-megawatt wind power project to be constructed by Desert Queen Wind Limited Partnership in Clark County, Nevada.
Cielo’s Desert Queen Wind Ranch™ will be one of Nevada’s first commercial-scale wind power projects. The project will generate enough power to provide the average annual electricity needs for as many as 50,000 homes. The project, located entirely on Bureau of Land Management lands, will be completed by the end of 2004.
